The Competition Board reevaluated the application regarding the acquisition of Sabmiller Plc’s control by Anheuser-Busch Inbev upon the decision of Ankara 6th Administrative Court.

The acquisition in question was previously authorized unconditionally by the Board Decision dated 01.06.2016 and numbered 16-19/311-140. However, the Board decision in question was annulled by the decision of Ankara 6th Administrative Court dated 01.11.2018 and numbered E: 2017/717, K: 2018/2508. The Competition Board reevaluated the file and took the decision dated 13.06.2019 and numbered 19-21/310-M to deal with the acquisition under final examination.

The Competition Board is in charge of monitoring mergers and/or acquisitions which would result in significant lessening of competition in markets according to article 7 of the Act no. 4054 on the Protection of Competition. Within the scope of article 10 of the Act, the Board may decide to deal with a transaction under final examination if an in-depth examination is needed about its effects on the competitive structure of the market.
