Investigation Initiated on the İzmir Chamber of Jewelers (29.7.2015)

The Competition Board took its decision concerning the preliminary inquiry which was launched in response to an information received claiming that the İzmir Chamber of Jewelers maintained the sales prices for gold.

The Competition Board, after discussing the information, documents and observations gathered during the preliminary inquiry on its meeting of 07.07.2015, deemed the findings significant and sufficient, and took the decision numbered 15-28/308-M to initiate an investigation concerning the İzmir Chamber of Jewelers.

Article 4 of the Act no 4054 prohibits all anti-competitive agreements and concerted practices between undertakings. The investigation was initiated in order to determine whether the İzmir Chamber of Jewelers violated article 4 of the Act no 4054 by, primarily, maintaining sales prices for gold as well as by imposing some sanctions on those tradesmen who did not comply with their prices.

These declarations, which are made within the framework of informing the public on Competition Board decisions, cannot be interpreted to mean the undertakings or associations of undertakings under investigation have violated the Act no 4054 and that they have faced or will face sanctions under the Act.
