The total number of merger and acquisition transactions notified to the Competition Authority in 2014 was 215. In 122 of these transactions, the target company or the joint venture established is a company founded in accordance with Turkish laws. Within the same time period, 18 privatization transactions have been evaluated.
Among the mergers and acquisitions examined by the Competition Authority in 2014, for those where the target company or the joint venture is based in Turkey the total transaction amount notified (with the exception of privatizations) was approximately 22 billion 90 million TL. In this period, the total value of the privatizations which were notified to the Competition Board and implemented was approximately 9 billion 193 million TL. In the same time period, mergers and acquisitions implemented by companies all parties to which were established in accordance with the laws of the Turkish Republic had a total transaction value of 6 billion 186 million TL.
In 2014, foreign investors have invested in Turkish companies in 56 separate transactions. Luxembourg based investors are in the first place among foreign investors in terms of transactions. In acquisition transactions where Turkish companies were acquired, foreign investors made an investment of approximately 10 billion TL. For the 3 Turkey-based joint venture transactions with foreign investors as partners, the total transaction amount was about 48 million TL.
In terms of economic area of activity, among those transactions where the target company or the joint venture established is based in Turkey (with the exception of privatizations), the highest transaction value was in the area of subletting or operating self-owned or leased real estates, with 3 billion 295 million TL. In 2014, for merger and acquisition transactions notified to the Competition Authority, a final decision was given in 16 days following the final notification day, on average.
